THAT’S THE WAY I SAW IT
ONE VERY GOOD BASEBALL HISTORIAN
Being a member of several baseball organizations you hear about individuals that are good minor league baseball historians.
Rex Hamann of Andover, Minnesota is the best I have ever corresponded with. Rex produces a 66 page newsletter about the American Association every quarter. This league folded several years ago but operated during WWII and had such cities as Columbus, Indianapolis, Kansas City, Louisville, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, St. Paul and Toledo. Some of these cities are now in the International League and some are Major League Cities.
His newsletter is very factual containing pictures of players and parks, all types of statistics, cartoons, and old newspaper advertisements.
For a charitable project, he finds gravesites of baseball players buried in Potter’s Field. He then makes appeals for money for grave stones through his American Association Almanac. He received money for Dan Haley and Dan Marion’s graves and a ceremony was performed on July 30, 2008 at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Milwaukee, where these new markers were unveiled.
Yes, Rex Hamann is the best Minor League Baseball historian. And that’s the way I see it
