PROPERTY TAX REFORM MUST BE ‘JOB 1’

Please Stay Informed and Engaged During Legislature’s Overhaul of System

Property tax reform must be “job one” this legislative session. Our Indiana system is in dire need of reform if not repeal. It’s unacceptable that Hoosiers are losing their homes or facing life-changing decisions due to unaffordable and unexpected property taxes.

Because property taxes are determined, collected and spent at the local level, any reform plan making a long-term difference for taxpayers must address local government spending…especially costly government construction projects and debt. In addition, our reforms must strive for more accuracy and fairness, which are crucial to public confidence in any system that remains.

Clearly, actions taken this upcoming session will have a significant impact on all Hoosiers…young and old alike. I urge you to stay informed and engaged throughout the process as lawmakers overhaul Indiana’s property tax system. I’ll work diligently to keep you abreast of pending reforms. I encourage you to share your feedback on how we can best reform Indiana’s property tax system.

Please know that I am just a phone call or email away. You can reach me toll-free at 800-382-9467 or S16@in.gov.

I look forward to hearing from you on this and other issues of importance.
