BABY SHOWER FOR A BABY’S CLOSET
Wayne Township Trustee’s Office employees had a “Baby Shower” recently to provide items for a Baby’s Closet, a ministry of Associated Churches.
Associated Churches Executive Director Pastor Vernon Graham and Outreach Director Ellen Graham attended the shower at the Trustee’s office to explain a Baby’s Closet to the staff and to accept the staff’s gifts for the program. Pastor and Ms. Graham also thanked the Wayne Township employees for their contributions to the Baby’s Closet.
Wayne Township Trustee Richard Stevenson said he is proud of his office for contributing to such a worthy cause. Trustee Stevenson thanked Township Investigator Heidi Hanne, Chairperson of the Shower, and the other staff members for their efforts in helping the Baby’s Closet.
The Wayne Township Trustee’s Office received an award from Associated Churches earlier this year for its continuing support of the Baby’s Closet.
Baby’s Closet helps at-risk pregnant women and new parents raise healthy babies. The parents earn coupons by participating in various programs such as pre-natal care, parenting education and getting shots or medical checkups for their newborns.
The parents use their coupons to obtain baby supplies at the Baby’s Closet. Some of the items regularly available at the Baby’s closet are baby clothing, cribs, car seats, high chairs, strollers, diapers, baby lotion and other toiletries for babies.
“Most of the items available at the Baby’s Closet are new,” Ellen Graham explained to the Wayne Township staff. Last year, the Baby’s Closet served over 1,000 clients, who received over 6,000 coupons for their new babies.
Baby’s Closet purchases new items for babies with monetary donations and also is stocked with donated baby things, such as those donated by the Wayne Township staff at its shower. Locations for the Baby’s Closet are First Christian Church, 4800 South Calhoun Street and Trinity United Methodist Church, 609 Putnam Street.
