DEAR GOD, THIS IS KELLEY
EACH OF US MATTERS
Talking to God is easy; it’s listening that’s the hard part. Sometimes we hear Him just fine. Most of the time we feel in the dark. Ah, but the growth that occurs during that time… No wonder God doesn’t talk out loud!
I look at people as I drive and as I walk around doing my errands. For the most part, they don’t smile. They don’t make eye contact. And I hate cell phones! Yes, they are great for staying available to one another, but when half the people in the stores are talking into them, I know for sure that not only won’t there be a modicum of human contact in the aisles, but I’ll probably go unseen and have carts pushed right into me! I want to stand up on a cart and yell, “EACH OF US MATTERS! ACKNOWLEDGE ONE ANOTHER. SMILE! WITNESS THE MASSIVE CHANGE IN EVERYONE WITH JUST A LITTLE BIT OF KIND CONTACT.”
Forgive me, Lord, when I walk around like this, closed off to others.
Forgive me when I allow myself a bit of road-rage because it really doesn’t matter how someone else drives. Someone else shouldn’t be determining how I behave!
Forgive me when I don’t make eye contact with another in close proximity to me in another car, in public places, the park on a walk.
I’m saying with my actions that that person does not matter enough to acknowledge.
Please help me not to give that message. I am a Christian, and I need to behave like a Christian, a joy-filled, hope-filled, secure-in-You Christian. Amen.
