VOICE OF THE TOWNSHIP

I want to wish a happy Spring to everyone in the Waynedale area. I hope you had a good Easter, and I hope you had the opportunity to attend our Wayne Township Trustee’s Office Easter Egg Hunt.

The tax preparation program at the Wayne Township Trustee’s Office was a great success. We were able to provide many persons with needed tax help. We are planning more helpful programs in the coming months, along with some fun events too. I will keep you informed of the dates of our upcoming events.

Last column, I introduced myself to you, and I wanted to do the same in this column for our recently elected Wayne Township Board. The Board serves as the legislative branch of Township government, with responsibility for approving the Trustee’s Office budget. The Township Board also adopts Township Assistance Eligibility Standards and advises the Trustee regarding Township business.

Our three Township Board members are Pat Turner, Chair; Maria Parra, Secretary; and Anthony (Tony) Henry, Township Finance Board President. Ms. Turner, Ms. Parra and Mr. Henry bring a wealth of experience to our Board, both in their professional lives and their extensive involvement in community activities.

Pat Turner is a graduate of IPFW and Leadership Fort Wayne. She works as a consultant, providing project management services to community organizations. Among her many community activities are serving as President of Larez Neighborhood Association and serving as a Board member of United Way of Allen County.

Maria Parra works as a Systems Professional and holds an MBA from Indiana University. She has served as Commissioner for the Fort Wayne Metropolitan Human Relations Commission and a Board Member of United Hispanic Americans.

Tony Henry is employed at St. Mary’s and St. Peter’s Catholic Church working primarily as a Social Worker. Mr. Henry has a B.A. Degree from St. Louis University and a Master’s Degree from Catholic University of America.

The Township Board meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 4:30 p.m. at the Trustee’s Office on Superior Street. I am looking forward to working with this very qualified Board for the next four years and know that they will be a great asset to Wayne Township.

Among business at a recent Board meeting was our request for a loan for the Wayne Township Trustee’s Office. We needed this loan because Wayne Township will receive its distribution of tax money late this year due to reassessment. We are fortunate that the County now has agreed to loan us the money we need to continue operating until we receive our tax money.

We have adopted a motto for our Wayne Township Trustee’s Office staff. That motto is, “Committed to the Challenge, Dedicated to the Cause,” which was suggested by employee Gwen Carpenter. If we at the Trustee’s office can be of any help to you, please feel free to contact us.
