City Council is currently reviewing the proposed 2007 budget. Council can cut items from the budget but can’t add any additional expenditures. Let me know your thoughts regarding any areas where you feel the City of Fort Wayne is spending too much. For example, I’ve looked into expenses for pickup trucks after receiving several calls from truck drivers about expensive heavy duty city vehicles which they feel are much larger then necessary. Let me know your opinion. Thanks.
IF, a downtown arena or baseball stadium would be developed, by private investors, the question remains: how do we get traffic in and out of the downtown area? We don’t have freeways running through downtown Fort Wayne like those you find in Indianapolis. Obviously, it would be best for Fort Wayne’s taxpayers if we weren’t forced to build new 4 lane thoroughfares into and out of our downtown. Here’s my idea: reroute traffic on north, south, east, and west routes so that all traffic flows away from the downtown area for 1-2 hours after a large downtown event to allow traffic to efficiently exit the downtown area. This is a low cost solution similar to the approach used for years on Fall Creek Parkway in Indianapolis. What are your thoughts??
Fort Wayne’s leaf pickup will be underway soon. As you probably know, this program is the responsibility of the Fort Wayne Street Department that also resurfaces streets and accomplishes snow removal. Tackling these 3 duties is a major challenge which makes efficient use of personnel and USUALLY works well. Pass along any suggestions you have regarding leaf pickup by the Street Department.
