ELMHURST DRUMLINE IS A WINNER

The Elmhurst “Trojan Pride” DrumLine used to be one of the best kept secrets at Elmhurst High School. Not any more! Directed by Chad Gay, assisted by Cory Kelley & Josh Farmer, Visual Design Consultant David Bolzman and supported by EHS Music Director Carson Kelley, the “Trojan Pride” DrumLine is in its third year of existence.

Sometime during 2004, percussion enthusiasts at Elmhurst began talking about forming a competitive DrumLine at Elmhurst High School. This group of directors, students and parents knew they had the talent and creativity to be competitive in the IPA – Indiana Percussion Association – through their collaborative efforts, the decision was made to proceed & that is when the Elmhurst “Trojan Pride” DrumLine was born.

As first year competitors in 2004, the learning was the focus and simply being part of the competitions felt like a huge success.

As second year competitors in 2005, they knew the ropes and were ready for a winning year. The dedication of the students and leadership team proved they were on the right track, as the team earned the opportunity to compete at the State Competition. Elmhurst showed the more experienced teams that they were serious about competing and had been working hard as they earned a 10th place finish.

The third year of competition began with a team hungry for improvement and committed to the hard work required to move up in the ranks. Saturday, March 25, 2006 found the Elmhurst “Trojan Pride” DrumLine, again competing at the IPA State Competition and this year earning a fourth place trophy with their highest score ever, being just edged out of third place by 1/10th of a point!

The DrumLine thrilled and brought a capacity crowd to their feet at Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis. Fans attending the event commented, “it was the DrumLine’s finest performance of the year.”

Considering the score they earned it, the judging committee must have thought so too. Congratulations to the Elmhurst “Trojan Pride” DrumLine for a great show and a great season. We can’t wait ’til next year!

Congratulations! 2006 DrumLine members: Brett Lay, Kasey Snyder, Mike Mawhinney, Dontay Reina, Martrell Dance, Alvin Davis, Tristan Hartzell, Jonathan Osborn, Josh Tracey, David Hermann, Andrew White, Nichole Mawhinney, Curtis Williams, Emma Calzada, Kenny Woods, Danielle Bubb, Adam Colchin, Nora Baskin, Lauren Lamboley, Vincent Rowald, Adam Sullivan, Katie Roberts, Nicholas Williams, & ‘Lynne’ Francis.

Special thanks to the Leadership team of Chad Gay, Cory Kelley, Josh Farmer, David Bolzman & Carson Kelley.

In addition, an extra-special thank you to all the dedicated parents, families & friends who give up huge amounts of their personal time and every weekend because they believe in our dreams. We couldn’t do it without you!
