HAPPY BIRTHDAY ALMA MAE

Alma Mae Springer, longtime Waynedale resident, turned 90 on February 4th, 2006. Her children Bonnie, Dennis and Jim Springer hosted a party for all of her friends, relatives, church and ProTo Home Ec. Club members, and Waynedale residents at the Kingston Assisted Living Facility where she resides on Winchester Road.

Ann and her husband Gerry Springer moved to Waynedale in 1945. She resided at 7214 Elzey Street with her husband and children Bonnie and Jim until after she broke her ankle approximately 9 years ago. Ann worked for over 30 years at Fort Wayne Tailoring and then at Bennet’s in New Haven.

She was very active in craftwork and served as a den mother for Cub Scouts and was a primary Sunday School teacher at St. John’s Lutheran in Fort Wayne and then at Bethany Lutheran on Engle Road for many years. She made the flannel graph materials still believed to be in use today at Bethany Lutheran. She is a member of Trier Ridge Community Church.

Ann was one of 10 children born to Leon and Ethel Bloom of Garrett, Indiana and graduated from Garrett High School. She was married to Gerald E. Springer at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne on November 11, 1939.

Her children, granddaughters and great granddaughter, acquaintances, neighbors, friends, relatives, church members, Home Ec. Club, and Waynedale residents attended the celebration on Saturday, February 4, 2006.
