NATIONAL HOSPICE MONTH
Information provided by Klaehn, Fahl & Melton Funeral Homes
November is National Hospice Month and hospice plays a vital role in our community. Professional hospice workers make a meaningful and humanitarian contribution to Fort Wayne communities and to communities all over the world.
The hospice approach to care utilizes an interdisciplinary team of medical professionals and trained volunteers to provide pain and symptom management, psychosocial support and spiritual care to the dying and their families.
In 2003 the final days of 885,000 Americans were eased by the nations 3,200 hospice providers. Moreover, research published in the Journal of the American Medical Association in January 2004 reported more than 70 percent of family members rated home hospice care as “excellent.”
As fellow caregivers in our community, we honor hospice for the invaluable service it provides to those seeking physical, emotional and spiritual support. The nation’s hospice workers were justly recognized in the 2003 proclamation by President George W. Bush who said, “Every stage of human life deserves to be treated with respect and care. I commend all those who work and volunteer as hospice care providers. Their contributions make our Nation a better place.”
We encourage our community to remember the compassionate and emotional strength of hospice workers during National Hospice Month.
