SHEPARD EARNS EAGLE SCOUT AWARD

Joseph Wayne Shepard, son of Jack Sr. and Mary Shepard has recently earned his Eagle Scout Award with Boy Scout Troop 22. Joseph earned his Eagle Scout Award on June 7, at the Southwest Conservation Club, under the direction of Scoutmaster’s Troy Schlie, Jack Shepard, Rob Nave and John Mortimer.

Joseph worked with Trustee Dave Dickerson at Calvary United Methodist Church. He had to build three 8-foot picnic tables along with Scoutmaster Troy Schlie, Jack Shepard and Boy Scout Troop #22.

The tables were built at Todd Cooley’s house and Todd’s mother provided lunch for the entire crew. The lumber was donated by Wolohan Lumber Company. It took the troop all day to complete the tables after which they were transported to the church.

Joseph joined the Cub Scouts when he attended Washington-Study Elementary School. He attended weekly meetings at Lilley Elementary School with Cub Pack #3902, under Cub Master Gary McOmber and Den Leader Chester Machnowski. Machnowski was also his Weblos Leader. Joseph earned his Arrow of Life, as well as, many other things as a young cub.

He then moved to Boy Scout Troop #22 where his Scoutmaster was Rob Nave. Joseph then went to his father and they joined Troop #44 where John Mortimer was his Scoutmaster. John taught Joseph alot about Dutch oven cooking. John stepped down and Jack Shepard took over as Scoutmaster, until the city took the Scout building in order to widen Ardmore Avenue. Joseph decided to go back to Troop #22 with Scoutmaster Troy Schlie.

Joseph will be a freshman at Wayne High School this fall. This summer he will be working at the Boy Scout summer camp as a C.I.T. He attends the Calvary United Methodist church. He will getting his palms and completing his high school education. Then he will be off to college. His parents are very proud of him and would like to thank everyone who attended his award presentation and those that called to wish him the best.
