THAT’S THE WAY I SAW IT

I plead my case by mentioning these facts and incidents.

One day before I left for Florida, I received a letter from the Cleveland Indians signed by Ryan Beech, Cleveland Indians spring training ticket manager. He stated: “Greetings from the Cleveland Indians! We were pleased you have decided to attend a game at Chain of Lakes Park. We were not able to fill your ticket order exactly as you requested. Enclosed you will find the check that was sent to our box office.”

In the past they would substitute a ticket if the requested seat wasn’t available, and issue a refund. They have so much money they don’t want to be bothered with $55.

Reaching Winter Haven I went to the ticket window and asked the lady if all games were a complete sellout. I then showed her the letter, but didn’t understand what she was telling me through the glass window. I asked her if that day’s game, Saturday, March 12, was a sellout. She started showing me on the ‘seat layout’ chart, which tickets were available.

I told her to give me the best seat she had. I received a $21 VIP seat. All was not lost, as I received Coco Chisp’s autograph on the letter. The other games that I received were rained out. On a rained out game they tell you what game you can attend.

Ever try to read the fine print on the back of a ticket?

If a game is tied after 10 innings, that game is not completed. Up to March 16, the Tigers had three uncompleted games. One against Florida Southern College; Cleveland in Winter Haven on March 6, and March the 15 game, 2-2, against Toronto. There were three ties on March 15, Braves 3, Dodgers 3; Marlins 2, Twins 2; and the Tigers game. Earlier the Orioles and the Dodgers had a 0-0 ten-inning game. This ‘tie rule’ was made after that All Star Game. We just can’t overwork these ball players.

Parking is $5 and one of the parking lots is next to a large swimming pool that has only one exit. If you don’t leave early it may take you over an hour to get on your way.

A weather report in Florida that states 40% chance of rain, means that 10 of 24 hours it will rain constantly. Coming back home it quit raining in Georgia.

Spring training used to be different. Here is my report from sunny Florida. The Indians may be leaving Winter Haven but I doubt if I will ever go to another spring training game.
