A HEALTHY DAY

Glyconutrients

One of the hardest things for doctors to do is to find out what the direct cause of a patient’s problem is. Most problem sources can be found, especially those having to do with a physical structural problem such as segmental dysfunction, herniated disc, and other structural abnormalities which happen to over 80% of us every day. But there are certain diseases such as arthritis, cancer, and auto-immune disorders like lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, scleroderma and fibromyalgia, where an underlying cause is hard to find. As stated in one of my recent articles, the direct cause of fibromyalgia is unknown. People have tried almost everything to combat fibromyalgia, along with other above mentioned diseases, without much success. They are constantly being treated for their symptoms and not getting the problem resolved. Since the root of the problem is so hard to find, our society continues to suffer with more pain and medical bills. Our nation is the 27th ranked healthiest country in the world according to the world health organization with Sweden being number one. For those who can remember, in the past we did not have to worry so much about cancer and heart disease, which are now the number one and two most causes of death in the USA. There are many reasons for this consisting of lack of exercise, stress, mental, environmental, genetic factors and mostly poor nutrition. Our diet is bad and something needs to be done. Even if we try to eat healthy, we are still at risk because most of our vegetables we eat have been laced with pesticides and most of the meats we eat have been mutated by growth hormones. Even the foods the animals eat have pesticides in them. Thus, the best way to really live a healthy lifestyle, in a nutritional aspect, is by natural supplementation.

Just recently I was introduced to the science of glycobiology. At first I was skeptical about it but visited a website called www.glycoscience.org, my views quickly changed. In this website, I learned that there is new hope for our society and what caught my attention was the following quote;

“The four major classes of biomolecules are proteins, nucleic acids, lipids (fats) and carbohydrates. For many years, scientists focused on proteins as the primary communication molecules. Early in this century however, a theoretical mathematician at the Weisman Institute calculated the number of molecular configurations possible with protein molecules and the number of known chemical command signals needed to run the body. She concluded that there were not enough protein configurations possible to supply all the messages. Another code was required—a sugar code. Of the 200 monosaccharide that occur naturally in plants, eight have been discovered to be components of cell-surface glycoforms used in cell-to-cell communication. These eight sugars are glucose, fucose, mannose, galactose, xylose, N-acetylglucosamine, N-acetylgalactosamine and N-acetylneuraminic acid. Only two of these, glucose and galactose, are commonly found in foods we choose to eat.” (www.glycoscience.org)

The main thing that these glyconutrients do is help with cell-to-cell communication and ultimately increase immune function as a whole. For example, mannose helps to activate macrophages that in turn modulate immune response, tissue inflammation, and destroy bacteria and other cellular debris. If our immune system can function at full capacity, the positive results to disease regulation, prevention, and possibly cures are not so far out of reach as it may seem. Due to the high volume of data and copy right laws I cannot go into much detail on this subject but I can tell you that there are studies done with these nutrients which help with diseases like fibromyalgia, cancer growth and metastasis, bacterial and viral infections, metabolic disorders, diabetes, autoimmune disorders, osteoporosis, senile dementia of the Alzheimer’s type, and cigarette craving.

It is important for you to know that I am not saying that this is a cure for diseases by any means, but I can say that glyconutrients may help. From the extent of the research that has been done, and the research I have done to write this article, it can be said that these nutrients are promising and the testimonials are endless. I am excited to learn about this new science and I know you will be to. I only ask that you do what I did and go to the following website; www.glycoscience.org and see for yourself. It is time that we stop being 27th but to be Number ONE. If you would like to know more about glyconutrients and ways to get products with these glyconutrients, please contact me at: Dr. James P.
