STEVE WHITE STORY

Steve White may have been a modern-day child prodigy. By the tender age of nine, he had already built his first car engine. White was born and raised in Waynedale, and has lived here all his life. Today, he works for Evans Motors, on the corner of Bluffton and Lower Huntington Roads.

Besides offering an average of fifteen to twenty cars and trucks for sale at any given time, Evans Motors has recently begun to offer other services, such as oil changes, quick lubes, brake work, exhaust and coolant work, and minor maintenance.

“There are actually two businesses here,” said White, “the used car lot, which has been in Waynedale for several years, and Evans Car Care, which has been here for about three months.”

“The Evans family, who has been in business for over forty-eight years, started out with a Volkswagen franchise,” said Lenny Martin (who also works for the company in Waynedale). “Now they own the Toyota/Suzuki store on Coliseum and a Dodge, Jeep and Chrysler store in Kendallville, in addition to the store on Bluffton and Lower Huntington Roads,” he said.

The outlet for car sales is open Monday through Thursday from 10am to 7pm; on Fridays from 10am to 6pm, and on Saturdays from 10am to 4pm.

The Evans Car Care Center is open from 8am to 5pm Monday through Friday, and from 9am to 1pm on Saturdays. Steve White puts a great deal of importance on customer service.

“To me, the customer has always been number one, top priority,” he said. White added that to keep the customers happy, they often stay open late on Saturdays.
