SENATOR DAVID LONG APPOINTED TO COMMISSIONS AND COMMITTEES
State Senate President Pro Tempore Bob Garton (R-Columbus) announced the appointment of State Senator David Long (R-Fort Wayne) to the Government Efficiency and Financing Study Commission.
The General Assembly formed the commission during the 2004 session with a bill authored by Long. The commission plans to study local government financing and structure as well as efficient methods of providing necessary services to the public. The panel will also specifically examine Fort Wayne and Allen County to determine both the benefits and adverse effects of local government consolidation.
Garton also selected Long to represent the Senate on the Sentencing Policy Study Committee and the Commission on Courts. The bi-partisan panels examine various matters regarding judicial and corrections system.
Additionally, Garton appointed Long to the newly formed Forensic Diversion Study Committee. Long helped champion the legislation that created the program during the last legislative session. Now, as a member of the committee, he will evaluate the effectiveness and appropriateness of programs throughout the state.
As a member of the Senate Utility and Regulatory Affairs Standing Committee, Long sits on the Regulatory Flexibility Committee during the interim as well.
Legislators form commissions, study commissions, and advisory boards to examine issues in detail and to give more focused attention to particular issues not addressed during the legislative session.
“Senator Long provides the Senate with a wealth of knowledge during session,” said Garton. “His presence on these panels ensures that his knowledge extends into the interim.”
Long represents District 16, which includes a portion of Allen County.
