ANOTHER VIEW

“Marriage”

I’m just a little guy, what does my opinion count? But concerning the looming, nation-shaping debate about gay marriage, I have to say something. The whole subject of marriage is really important to me, after all, I live within a marriage every day, every hour, every moment and have done so for almost fifteen years. And I like it. And not only that, but as a by-product of my marriage to a sweet little gal raised on Fort Wayne’s southside, we now have more welcome guests in our home; four entertaining, affectionate, amazing boys, the fruit of our love.

Somebody thought up this idea of marriage, it didn’t just fall out of a tree. The government didn’t legislate it, the church didn’t create it, science didn’t discover it and technology didn’t design it. Ironically, the government now debates it, the church tries to rescue it, and science and technology toy with conceiving children apart from it. To speak plainly, marriage is the one social arrangement “made in heaven,” an idea from above.

It’s impossible to say if God is a Democrat or a Republican (Independent maybe?), if he prefers a monarchy over a democracy or if he prefers socialized or private medicine. The bible doesn’t address these issues directly. But regarding marriage, he…well, perhaps it’s better to quote Jesus, But God’s plan was seen from the beginning of creation, for ‘he made them male and female.’ This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one. Since they are no longer two but one, let no one separate them, for God has joined them together. Mark 10:6-9. Another biblical passage gives insight into the importance of marriage, ‘I hate divorce!’ says the LORD, the God of Israel. Malachi 2:16.

Sociologically we’ve let an awful lot slide these last fifty years in America. It should trouble us deeply to think that in the name of “rights” and “tolerance” it might soon be legal for a single woman to conceive twin babies via artificial insemination, abort one of them, a male baby, birth the second one, a female, then when the girl reaches the age of consent the mother and daughter could marry one another in a lesbian wedding…and if I may be so bold should we not have the courage to say that such a scenario would be wrong, absolutely. Someone might say, “But don’t we have laws to protect people from such an atrocity?” Yes, there are anti-incest laws, but if there’s nothing absolutely, morally wrong with abortion (fetalcide), child sex, and homosexual “marriage,” why not incest?

It’s too bad marriage certificates don’t come with little stickers on them that read, “the maker cannot be held liable for problems resulting from the use of this product for any other than its intended purpose.” And what would that be? Malachi of old said, Didn’t the Lord make you one with your wife? In body and spirit you are his. What does he want? Godly children from your union. So guard yourself, remain loyal to the wife of your youth. 2:15.
