BRONZE STAR MEDAL FOR WWII VETS WHO RECEIVED COMBAT INFANTRY BADGE OR COMBAT MEDICAL BADGE

World War II veterans who earned the Arm’s Combat Infantry Badge or the Combat Medical Badge are eligible to receive the Bronze Star Medal. Army Regulations 680-8-22 states that the award of either of these badges is considered a citation in orders of documentary evidence of exemplary conduct in ground combat against an armed enemy prior to 1 July 1947. Executive Order 9419 dated February 4, 1944, which was superseded by Executive Order 11046 dated August 24, 1962, established the BSM for certain heroic or meritorious achievement actions after December 6, 1941, so a CIB or CMB earned before July 1, 1947 qualifies the individual for a Bronze Star Medal. Contact the Allen County Veterans Services Officer-George Jarboe, at (260)449-7861 for assistance in obtaining this award.

AMERICAN FLAG QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Taken from OUR AMERICAN FLAG – Compliments of State Senator Charles “Bud” Meeks.

Question: How do you ‘fly’ a flag at half-staff?

Answer: When flown at half-staff, the American flag should first be hoisted to the peak for an instant, then lowered to the half-staff position. The flag should then be raised again to the peak before it is lowered for the day.

Question: When should our flag be flown at half-mast?

Answer: On Memorial Day, the flag should be displayed at half-mast only until noon, then raised to the top of the pole. The flag is to be flown half-staff all day on the following dates: Pearl Harbor Day-December 7th; Peace Officers Memorial Day-May 15; and Korean War Veterans Armistice Day, July 27. Recently the President of the United States ordered the flag to be flown at half-mast on Wednesday, July 30, 2003, the day Bob Hope was buried.

NOTE: IF ANY UNIT, LEGION, AMVET, BOY SCOUT, GIRL SCOUT, CUB SCOUT, ETC. IS COLLECTING AMERICAN FLAGS AND HOLDING A FLAG DISPOSAL CEREMONY, LET US KNOW AND WE’LL PUBLISH THE DETAILS IN THE WAYNEDALE NEWS.
