WAYNEDALE VETERANS’ NEWS

FRANCE ISSUING CERTIFICATE TO HONOR WWII VETERANS WHO PARTICIPATED IN THE LIBERATION OF FRANCE

Veterans of WWII who participated in the D-Day landing at Normandy, France or in the Liberation of France, are being honored by the French government in special programs throughout the state during the year 2003. This certificate will be presented to each qualified veteran who attends the program by the Consul General of France, Chicago Embassy, or his representative. Over 500 certificates were presented during 3 ceremonies in 2002.

The programs, sponsored and arranged by the Indiana Veterans’ Service Officer Association, a group comprised of Indiana’s 91 County Veterans’ Service Officers, will be conducted at three locations. The first will be at Evansville in late April/early May 2003, the second at Logansport on July 19th, and the third at Corydon, Indiana in October. Veterans in the following counties who have not already submitted their applications for the certificate should contact their Veterans’ Service Officer for the application.

Veterans residing in Northern Indiana will participate in the Logansport, Indiana program that will be held at the All Saints Catholic Church located in downtown Logansport starting at 1pm. This includes the following counties: Adams, Allen, Benton, Blackford, Carroll, Cass, Dekalb, Elkhart, Fulton, Grant, Howard, Huntington, Jasper, Jay, Kosciusko, Lagrange, Lake, Laport, Marshall, Miami, Newton, Noble, Porter, Pulaski, St. Joseph, Starke, Steuben, Wabash, Wells, White and Whitley. Applications must be submitted on later than July 1, 2003. Questions regarding the program or, to arrange for an application should be directed to George Jarboe, Allen County Veteran’s Service Officer at 449-7861.

 

AMERICAN LEGION POST 241

Post 241’s 84th Birthday Party will be held Saturday, March 15, 2003 – Tickets are available at the bar. Our guest speaker will be Ron Miller, Past Department of Indiana Commander. (Cocktails 5:30pm – Dinner-6pm – Tickets-$5 per person) – Music by EXPRESS BAND

March 9th at Post #296, our Zone Oratorical Contest will take place at 10am.

It’s that time of year again – 1st Nominations for the Post Officers March 11th – 2nd Nominations April 8th and vote May 10th.

The Memorial Day Parade Committee will be starting to put the program together in the next two months. We/Post #241 will be the Host Post this year.

Don’t forget to pay your 2003 Membership dues. Only 2003 cards will be accepted at the bar.

Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 26, 2003. Waynedale Daze will take place in Waynedale Park right after the parade.

AMERICAN LEGION POST #241 Ladies Auxiliary

The next meeting is March 11th – 1st nominations for 2003-2004 officers – April 8th – 2nd and final nominations with elections on May 10th.

April 12th is the Children’s Easter Party – signup slips need to be in by April 5th with one child per slip, please.

April 26th is the Membership Appreciation Party, bring a dish and join us for fun, food, and prizes.

S.A.L. (SONS OF THE AMERICAN LEGION) SQUADRON #241

Spring Cash Bonanza will be on March 23rd – the general meeting will be March 18th with 1st nominations at that meeting and April meeting will be on the 15th with 2nd and final nominations that evening. On March 12th we will be hosting the 4th District S.A.L. meeting that evening from 7:30pm and will last for about 30 minutes. All that attend that night will be fed a nice meal after the meeting with a couple of (S.A.L. juice coupons) provided. Plans are being made for another Legion Family night at Baer Field Speedways for this summer. Renew your membership.
