SIGN UP NOW FOR 2003 MASTER GARDENER TRAINING
The Master Gardener Program helps gardeners grow by providing them with intensive training in horticultural principles. Master Gardener volunteers then share their knowledge by providing volunteer leadership and service to their communities. It is the training that Master Gardener volunteers receive that makes Master Gardener volunteers special. Training sessions will be held at the Allen County Extension Office on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 1pm to 4:30pm. At least 16 class sessions plus a final exam session will be held. In 2003, training sessions will begin on September 2, and conclude in early November. The fee for the training is $100 (due at orientation sessions in July or August.)
Candidates should be committed to educating others in the community about gardening, and be willing to work to achieve educational goals of Purdue Extension, and above all, have a willingness and ability to communicate and cooperate with others in group settings to achieve those goals. If you are interested in becoming a Master Gardener, visit or contact the Allen County Extension Office at 481-6926 (option 3) and ask for an application. The application is also available on-line at www.ces.purdue.edu/allen. The Purdue Master Gardener volunteer training program has been popular and space is limited.
REGISTER NOW FOR THE 2003 MASTER GARDENER YOUTH PROGRAM
The Allen County Master Gardener Youth program is a summer educational program offered by Purdue Cooperative Extension to young adults ages 7-14. The Master Gardener Youth program features teaching sessions (2-1/2 hours each) that are taught 3 days each week by Master Gardeners and area gardening experts. Hands-on-training, tours and outdoor labs are emphasized. Each season, the “Earth Tenders” also plant and maintain their own garden area at the Youth Garden located at the Extension Office Display Gardens. Earth Tenders who attend class sessions regularly, perform community service, and complete a final project become certified Allen County Youth Master Gardeners. Since 1997, over 100 children have completed the program.
Training sessions will be held at the Allen County Extension Office on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings from 8:30am to 11am. In 2003, training sessions will begin on June 9th and conclude in mid-July. The fee for the training is $30 (due at first orientation session).
