WAYNEDALE COUPLE CELEBRATE THEIR 2ND YEAR ANNIVERSARY
Walt and Mary Lee Mitchell, of Sandpoint Road in Waynedale are celebrating their second year in the restaurant business. Mary Lee, who works for Kraft Foods, and Walt, who is a food service manager for Indiana Institute of Technology had always wanted to own their own business. The Snug Cafe came up for sale in Bluffton, Indiana two years ago and they were interested. After some investigating they found that the Snug had been in business since 1927, hence the Café is celebrating its seventy-fifth anniversary.
The Snug came complete with staff members Nancy Franze, Ruie Penrod, Sue Swain, Sherri Hughett, anchor cook Shirley Berry, and Pie Lady Anna Liby from the Dutch Mill.
The first thing that Walt did was to upgrade the kitchen, re-upholster the booths, and add a new awning. They found the staff was well trained and personable. The menu was typical of hometown cooking and the comfortable atmosphere needed no modification.
One of the Snug’s specialties is the Big Bob Burger. The BBB was named after the previous owner Bob Cress, and invented by restaurant manager, Nancy Franze, (no relation to Dennis Franz of NYPD). The burger, which is a meal in itself, consists of 1/2lb. of hamburger, with sautéed onions, two strips of bacon, grilled ham, Cheddar and Monterey Jack cheese, with BBQ sauce.
The Snug Café is just a short drive from Waynedale, located on 126 Market Street in Bluffton, Indiana. Mary Lee, Walt, and the Snug bunch, invite you down for some hometown cooking and to help them celebrate their second year anniversary of the 75 year-old restaurant.
