SCOUTING SMOKE SIGNALS

“I pledge Allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with Liberty, and Justice for all.”

And thus it is that I encourage all Scouts, Scouters, and everyone involved in Scouting, everywhere, to pledge allegiance to our flag just as it stands above and not change one word no matter the court order, minor religious (or no religious) opinion, or outcry from people too stupid to live in this, our great country; it was founded on our belief in God..

Most all the Waynedale area troops should have attended summer camp at Camp Chief Little Turtle at Pleasant Lake, Indiana and returned by now. If you have photos of your troop at camp engaged in outdoor activities or holding fish, snakes, raccoons, skunks, etc, we would like to see them. If we have room we will publish them in THE WAYNEDALE NEWS. Give us the names of the people in the photos and list them from top row to bottom row – left person to right person. This goes for Cub Scouts at Day Camp also. Get those photos to us.

Boy Scout Troop #44, sponsored by Portage Creek Camp Association and located at the corner of Lower Huntington Road and Ardmore Avenue, is now accepting new members and leaders. “We plan on building our troop up to at least 50 boys,” according to Walt Pressler, President of Portage Creek Camp Association. “We have also agreed to let Girl Scout Troop #850 meet weekly at the Boy Scout Cabin.” We’re also hoping to re-instate Cub Scout Pack 3044 later on and have them hold their meetings here at the cabin,” he said. Cub Scout Pack #3044 used to meet at Maplewood School but has since gone under we understand. Jack Shepard, Scoutmaster for Troop 44, said, “Why have a nice cabin, like we have here, just set empty most of the time; why not use it?”

If anyone is interested in helping Portage Creek Camp Association start up Cub Scout Pack #3044, contact Ray McCune at 747-6512. We will be needing a Cub Master, Den Leaders, Committee Members, Parents, other Volunteers, AND Boys (ages 8 to 10). Older boys (ages 11 to 18) are needed in Troop 44. Does anyone know where Pack 3044’s flags and their other equipment is located? If you have any questions drop me a line, give me a call, or contact me on the Internet at theraymccune@aol.com. Till next time, “Be Prepared,” “Do a good turn daily,” and remember, “A smile is a frown turned upside down.”
