LAURIE SAVAGE IS OUR ARTIST OF THE MONTH
Laurie’s favorite quote is by David Shaner, one of the world’s most famous potters. “The critical aspect of any work of art is the spirit in which it is made. The soul of the artists cannot successfully be anything but of oneself.” That is SUCH a true statement,” said Laurie. “When I am creating, and focus ONLY on what I am doing and absolutely nothing else, my eyes, my hands, and my spirit come together as one; and the finished art piece speaks of that forever. I hope when you see my work, you will feel the same way.”
Laurie has been working and creating in CLAY for over 25 years. Laurie’s Clay Art has evolved from functional stoneware and porcelain pieces into sculpture and then simultaneously into combining the two forms. Her most recent work in clay has been in creating sculptural teapots that are low-temperature fired, as Raku, Pit-fired, or Salt-fired. Laurie’s LIFEMASKS are usually Raku fired; she believes this captures forever the true embodiment of one’s soul.
Fifteen years ago, Laurie began creating jewelry. She has used her clay artistry for unique bead making, and is creating necklaces, bracelets, and earrings incorporating many gemstones, fossils, and nature’s bounty of all treasures into her jewelry.
You, the Public, are invited to the Artist Reception for Laurie Savage, Fort Wayne Art Source, 2812 Lower Huntington Road, Sunday, March 17th 2pm to 4pm. Refreshments served to those who are wearing green!

PORTAGE CREEK CAMP ASSOCIATION’S
“1ST ANNUAL MOST AWLSOME HUMONGUS WAYNEDALE-WIDE GARAGE SALE”
(The time of the sale will be announced as soon as the garage at the Scout Cabin (corner of Lower Huntington Road and Ardmore Avenue) is full – probably in the very early spring.) Have a garage sale last fall and don’t know what to do with all the ‘leftovers’? Are you still sorting through all the stuff Aunt Maggie left you in her will, attic, basement, and closets? Did someone give you a gift at the last ‘white elephant’ party you attended and you want to get rid of it? Got a garage/basement/attic you want emptied of its contents? Want to get rid of old toys, tools, cooking utensils, furniture, etc. after Christmas to make room for the new stuff? Move and haven’t unpacked all the boxes and don’t know what’s in them and haven’t missed the stuff? Don’t open them; call Portage Creek Camp Association at 747-4535.
The members said they are willing to come to your house to pick up your donations. You may drop off your donations at the Scout Cabin but you must call first and arrange for someone to meet you there. Please don’t drop anything off in front of the door; it will only get wet or be stolen. Call and have someone meet you there PLEASE. Take a FREE tour of the Boy Scout Cabin while you’re there.
Don’t throw it out; call Jack Shepard at 436-2422, for a ‘free’ pickup. For more information about Boy Scouting in the Waynedale area, contact Ray McCune at Portage Creek Camp Association, 2700 Lower Huntington Road or call him at 747-4535 or call Committee Chairman Walt Pressler at 436-9462.
