AMERICAN LEGION – For God and Country

PREAMBLE TO THE CONSTITUTION

“For God and Country, We associate ourselves together for the following purposes: To uphold and defend The Constitution of the United States of America. To maintain law and order.

To foster and perpetuate one hundred percent Americanism. To preserve the memories and incidents of our associations in the Great Wars. To inculcate a sense of individual obligation to the Community, State, and Nation. To combat the autocracy of both the classes and the masses.

To make right the master of might. To promote peace and good will on earth. To safeguard and transmit to posterity of the Principles of Justice, Freedom, and Democracy. To consecrate and sanctify our comradeship by our devotion to mutual helpfulness.

(See Ray McCune, Associate Editor, THE WAYNEDALE NEWS for an application to join American Legion Post 241 or the Sons of the American Legion (S.A.L.) Squadron #241. TRIBUTE TO THE FOUR CHAPLAINS – February 19th
Post 296 remembers the Four Chaplains who went down with their ship after they gave their life jackets to others. That was in February, 1943 when the Dorchester was hit by a torpedo. Clark Poling, a Reformed Church chaplain, Alexander Goode, a Jewish rabbi, John Washington, a Catholic, and George Fox, a Methodist Chaplain helped distribute life belts, and then gave their own. At the beginning of our membership meeting on February 19th, we will have a short, moving ceremony to honor those men who went to their death hand in hand. All are welcome to the Tribute.
