The Lamplighters Home Ec Club recently attended the Arena Theater to celebrate their club’s 50th year anniversary.
It was the Elmhurst Better Home Club that saw the need for an evening club so new members met at the home of Mrs. Edward Moering on August 14, 1951. Plans were made for the club. The name “Lamplighters” was adopted and the following officers were elected: President-Mrs. V. P. Uron, Vice President-Mrs. Eloise Zion, Secretary-Mrs. Elmer Lankenau, Treasurer-Mrs. Ray Ensley, and Reporter-Mrs. Lynn Eickhoff. By October their program was “the ability to make toys at home with materials on hand”. It was also suggested to write Representative E. Ross Adair and Senator Capehart to enforce dope peddling laws and give longer sentences.

By November there were 19 members. At the close of the January meeting of 1953, the evening was spent socializing and watching “television”.

Through the years, lessons have been taken by members at the Allen County Extension Office and given at the monthly meetings. Quilts and teddy bears are made for distribution to the needy. We sponsor a patient from mental health and in leu of our Christmas exchange, the monies are used to sponsor a person’s food for one year through Community Harvest Food Bank.

We still meet in the members homes and have a membership of the following: Joyce Arnett, Pat Barnes, Sharon Bloxson, Anita Clark, Barb Herring, Norma Howard, Betty Markley, Helen Muntzinger, Alice Ohmart, Dolores Prange, Christine Roush, Elaine Rowlett, Mary Wilhelm, and Dorothy Williams.

The third Tuesday evening of the month will find our group eager to get together for lessons, food and fun. If anyone would like to join us, just call one of us. We’d love to have you.
