CAPTAIN PHIL HARRIS
Lutheran Life Villages joins the fans of The Deadliest Catch and mourns the loss of CAPTAIN PHIL HARRIS. Captain Phil passed away due to complications from his recent stroke. Residents, staff, and friends that had the pleasure to meet Captain Phil when he came to Fort Wayne in 2009 will remember a man that loved life and loved his job. Lutheran Life Villages remembers his comment that ‘five years ago I was just a crab fisherman, and five years from now I will still be a crab fisherman.’
Statement from Discovery – Discovery mourns the loss of dear friend and colleague Captain Phil Harris. He was more than someone on our television screen. Phil was a devoted father and loyal friend to all who knew him. We will miss his straightforward honesty, wicked sense of humor and enormous heart. We share our tremendous sadness over this loss with the millions of viewers who followed Phil’s every move. We send our thoughts and prayers to Phil’s sons Josh and Jake and the Cornelia Marie crew.”
About Captain Phil Harris – Hundreds eagerly turned out to meet Captain Phil Harris of the Discovery Channel’s The Deadliest Catch, during Crabfest ‘09 at the Scottish Rite Center, September 14. Crabfest ‘09 was the first of what is anticipated to be a new Fort Wayne tradition. The tally at Crabfest ‘09 raised several thousands of dollars for Lutheran Life Villages.
Prior to the event, Captain Phil visited the Lutheran Life Villages Fort Wayne campus on South Anthony Boulevard, sharing stories and smiles with many, many residents. “The tradition will continue,” said Gloria Baumgartner of Lutheran Life Villages, “with hopes of having Captain Phil’s sons Josh and Jake joining us this year in 2010.”
