BEHIND THE SCENES AT WIZARD STADIUM

Baseball Chapel at the Ball Park

Every Sunday during baseball season at all professional baseball parks, “Baseball Chapel” is conducted. “Baseball Chapel” is a national organization with their home office in Springfield, PA. Vince Nauff is the Executive Director, Watson Spoelstra was one of the pioneers and Travis Fryman (Tigers and Indians) is one of the present Board of Directors.

This program started in the late 60’s at the Cincinnati Riverfront Stadium. Bowie Kuhn, Baseball Commissioner at that time, gave the green light to this idea.

Tom Hopewell and Bob Freeborn (volunteers) have administered this ministry since 1993 when the Wizards began operations in the Midwest League. Both are employed at Blackhawk Christian School.

The programs used by these two men are furnished by “Baseball Chapel”. The message August 8, 2004 was titled: “True Contentment.” The program is printed in both Spanish and English. Bob speaks to the players in Spanish and Tom in English.

I was very impressed with “Baseball Chapel” and believe it is a very worthwhile ministry.
