THE VOICE OF THE TOWNSHIP

Heartwarming Memories Conquer the Cold

The 9th Annual “Great Easter Egg Hunt” was held on Saturday, March 26, 2005 at 11:00 A.M. The day started off a little icy with frost on the ground, but nevertheless, the vision of children creating priceless memories of joy melted the chilly elements and warmed the hearts of all. Under the leadership of yours truly and event coordinator Outreach Supervisor Lois DaDa, the Wayne Township Staff had a great day as they watched families and volunteers participating in this joyous Easter gathering at Headwaters Park!

High-spirited children energetically came out to participate in the days activities which included: a magic show, animal balloons created by Clowns of America Inc., an appearance from the Fort Wayne Komet Mascot – Icy D. Eagle, the Mastodon moon walk, helium balloons and pictures with whom? The Easter Bunny, of course!

The Great Easter Egg Hunt is made possible by the many community supporters throughout Allen County that were acknowledged for their dedication to children in need during the community appreciation phase of the event. Allen County Commissioner Marla Irving called on behalf of the Commissioners Office to congratulate myself, volunteers, and staff for “such a successful event that accommodated over 500 children with a free Easter celebration that only the Wayne Township Trustee’s Office could provide so eloquently and at no cost to the taxpaying citizens of the community.”

We would like to say thanks and acknowledge our volunteers that came out in numbers to help with the hunt:

Wayne High School ROTC

IPFW Upward Bound

IPFW Indiana Reading Corps.

The Great Easter Egg Hunt, the largest of its kind in Northern Indiana, is sponsored by the Wayne Township Trustee’s Outreach Department. Although targeted for children living in transitional housing, the event welcomes all children and their parents looking for fellowship and fun!

I am so very proud of our Outreach Staff and their dedication to go above and beyond their normal duties. Headwaters Park was once again in beautiful condition thanks to Commission Director Geoff Paddock and his quality staff. It is also important that our community supporters and volunteers know that the smiles and joyfulness brought to the hundreds of children across Allen County would not be possible without their donations and support.

Although the love and dedication to this event could not be amplified by those already participating, it could be exceeded by expanding the amount of volunteers and supporters needed to serve even more children and their families thereby making it the largest event of its kind in Indiana.

Thanks to all for a great Easter memory.

Eggstraordinarily yours,
