DEAR WAYNEDALE READERS
The City will invest $46 million in road, water, storm-water, and sewer improvements in 2005. We continue our commitment to infrastructure investments with another great year of projects. Our innovative investments in providing excellent water and sewer services and good roads assist us in attracting new businesses and jobs.
Our biggest road project of the year will be in the southwest quadrant. Ardmore Avenue will be extended to 3-lanes from Lower Huntington to Indianapolis Roads. The project will begin this summer. This will provide a direct connection to Fort Wayne International Airport to enhance economic development opportunities. The intersection of Taylor Street and Ardmore Avenue will be signalized and turn lanes will be added. Main Street from Leesburg Road to West Jefferson Boulevard will be cracked and seated and overlaid with asphalt. Street paving will occur on Jefferson from Washington to Van Buren; Bluffton from Airport Expressway to Ferguson; Lexington from Calhoun to Hoagland; and Rudisill from Broadway to Fairfield to name a few. Sewer improvements will be made along Sherwood Terrace, Shawnee Drive and Wildwood Avenue to reduce basement backups. New water mains will be constructed in Indian Village.
We recently celebrated the purchase of several hybrid vehicles, which promotes a clean environment and will save taxpayers’ money. The City projects $112,000 in fuel savings. The vehicles are part of my “Green City” initiative aimed at improving government services and making the City more environmentally friendly.
The West Jefferson Trail Project won a state award from the Indiana Partnership for Highway Quality. Thanks to city staff, Brooks Construction and Bonar Group for a job well done on this great trail. We are working together as a community to make our greenway and trail system a success. The new trail enhances the area surrounding Rockhill and Swinney parks and provides great recreational activities for you to enjoy.
