CHARLES (CHARLIE) E. WALTER, 83
CHARLES (CHARLIE) E. WALTER, 83 passed away Saturday, April 29, 2006 at his home. Born July 31, 1922 in Vera Cruz, Indiana, son of Ervin & Frances (Moser) Walter. He retired from K-Mart Distribution Center after 34 years. He was a veteran of World War II and a member of American Legion Post 241 for 50 years, serving as past commander and head of the Honor Guard. He was well known in the Tri-State area playing in local clubs, wedding receptions and at Buck Lake Ranch from 1950 to 1990 with his band “Charlie Walter and the Trailriders”. He was a partner in the Hoosier Hayride series in 1957. He was a lifetime member and vice president of Fort Wayne Musicians Local 58. He also had a radio and television show on WKJG in the later 1950s and early 1960s and was a disc jockey for WIFF in Auburn, Indiana. He was a member of St. Therese Catholic Church and the Holy Name Society. Besides music he loved playing cards and belonged to a horseshoe league for 20 years. He also loved watching Colts football with his family and was a die-hard Cincinnati Reds fan.

Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Justine (Brite) Walter; sons, Ron, Tim, Mike, Dennis and Patrick; daughters, Ann, Cindy, and Lisa, 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; brothers, Kenneth of Bluffton, Raymond of Fort Wayne; and sister, Edna (Fred) Wenger of Bluffton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Eileen.
Service was Wednesday, May 3, at St. Therese Catholic Church. Visitation at Elzey Patterson Rodak Monday, May 1 and Tuesday, May 2.
