LOCAL RELIGIOUS LEADERS CHALLENGE YOU TO DONATE BLOOD
Bishop John M. D’Arcy and several other religious leaders from the Fort Wayne area will donate blood on Tuesday, June 27, to help “kick off” the Red Cross promotion of encouraging people to consider donating blood during the summer.
Bishop D’Arcy is the ordinary for the Catholic Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend. Other religious leaders expected to also donate blood at about 11:00 a.m. at the American Red Cross Center, 1212 E. California Road, include Rabbi Jonathan Katz, Congregation Achduth Vesholom Jewish Temple; David Bussell, president, Congregation B’nai Jacob Conservative; Dr. Peter Scaer, professor, Concordia Theological Seminary; and Rev. Daniel May, president, Indiana District Lutheran Church Missouri Synod.
According to the American Red Cross, every two seconds someone in America needs blood. Currently, blood centers across the country face shortages of particular blood types to supply hospital patients because people are busy vacationing and enjoying the outdoors – not thinking about or considering giving blood.
Persons at least 17 years of age, weighing a minimum of 110 pounds in good general health may be eligible to donate blood. For more information or to make a blood donation appointment, potential donors are asked to please call 1-800-GIVE-LIFE (1-800-448-3543).
