NATIONAL ESTATE PLANNING WEEK
PBS39, Fort Wayne announced today that the station is joining local community organizations in a public awareness campaign to promote National Estate Planning Awareness Week, from October 21 – 27, 2019.
Estate planning is one of the most overlooked areas of personal financial management. It has estimated that more than 120 million Americans do not have proper estate plans to protect themselves or their families in the event of sickness, accidents, or untimely death. These circumstances can cause unnecessary expense and financial hardship. Proper estate planning can help mitigate these unintended burdens.
In 2008, Congress passed a resolution proclaiming the third week in October as National Estate Planning Awareness Week. “Public television has long served as an advocate for financial literacy. Estate planning is a critical component of the financial health of most adults,” said Bruce Haines, President/General Manager of PBS39.
As part of this special week, PBS39 is hosting special “Write-A-Will” session at its offices on October 21, 22 and 24, with legal services donated to this cause by volunteer attorneys from Beers Mallers Back Salin, LLP. Area residents who have scheduled sessions with these volunteer attorneys are able to begin the planning process for their heirs and write a will, at no charge, provided they leave a gift to a charity or cause they believe in, such as PBS39. The 2019 “Write-A-Will” sessions are part of a larger initiative led by the Charitable Gift Planners of Northeast Indiana.
PBS39 is also recognizing National Estate Planning Week by providing local residents a FREE personal estate planning booklet. This booklet will allow the user to start organizing their financial assets and thinking through their personal goals.
