BRENDA HANCHAR FOUNDATION “FLAVOR OF FALL” FUNDRAISING EVENT
The Brenda Hanchar Foundation (BHF) announces a fund raising event called the “Flavor of Fall” set for Thursday, November 8, 2007. The Flavor of Fall will be held at the Baker Street Train Station in downtown Fort Wayne from 4pm to 7pm. It will feature a variety of soups, chili, chowders, and gumbo from a variety of Fort Wayne Notables and several well-known fine restaurants in Fort Wayne. The fundraiser will also feature a silent auction and music provided by the University of Saint Francis Music Department. A cash bar will be available.
Cooks/Chefs for the “Flavor of Fall” include: Michael Packnett, President/CEO Parkview Hospital; Chancellor Michael Wartell, IPFW; Jane Avery, Community Harvest Food Bank; Richard Stevenson, Wayne Township Trustee; Tim Davie, former Fort Wayne Fire Chief; Rosa Gerra, Executive Director United Hispanic-Americans, Inc.; Father Tom Shoemaker, Pastor St. Jude Catholic Church; Dr. Gregory Lowe, Audiologist; John Clendenen, Leo Town Council President; The Fort Wayne Derby Girls; Richard Ash; Ron Tipton, just to name a few. Restaurants participating in the Flavor of Fall include: Sycamore Hills Country Club; The Summit Club; Opus 24; Chappel’s; Aboite Grille; Hall’s Restaurants; Deli 620; Paula’s/O’Sullivans.
Admission to the Flavor of Fall is free. A free will donation will be accepted. Attendees will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite Flavor of Fall with their dollars. Special jars for collecting money will be set in front of each soup presented. The jar with the greatest amount of money will be named the Favorite Flavor of Fall. The silent auction will feature fine restaurant gift certificates, rounds of golf, artworks, a holiday carriage ride, and more.
It is the mission of the Brenda Hanchar Foundation to help those who are unable to afford physician directed medical equipment, medical supplies or prescription medication to enhance and maintain a reasonable quality of life. BHF does this by providing medical equipment, medical supplies and prescription assistance to individuals who cannot afford medical insurance and meet income guidelines based on the Federal Poverty Level. Equipment provided is on a loan basis. It is estimated that up to 30% of the population is without medical insurance either public or private in Allen County alone. Recent surveys of various Allen County hospital discharge planners finds that approximately 150 to 200 people are sent home from the hospital monthly without the means to purchase prescribed medications or medical equipment.
