WILLIAM LEE HITZFIELD, 76

WILLIAM LEE HITZFIELD, 76, of Roanoke, was received into God’s eternal kingdom surrounded by his loving family on December 3, 2015. He was born on July 13, 1939, in Hazel Park, Michigan, to Albert and Elsie Hitzfield. He worked as a Carpenter for International Harvester/Navistar for 30 years until his retirement. He was a member of the UAW. Bill served his Lord and Savior by raising a Christian family, providing communion and ministering to shut-ins, and being a church elder and Stephen Minister at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church.

As you may know, Bill gave away many more of his garden vegetables and pickled creations than he kept for himself and Belanda. Do you remember his pickle truck? During the day, he delighted in spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren on the mower, tractor, attending soccer and tennis matches and teaching them how to fish. At night, he loved to hunt with his coon dogs and beagles for almost any animal that walked on four legs including frogs, coons, squirrels, turkeys and deer.

He married and is survived by his high school sweetheart, Belanda (Carpenter) Hitzfield, with whom he shared 56 years of marriage. He is also survived by his brothers, Glen (Marlene), Larry (Carol), and Roger (Becky); his sister, Nancy (Bob); his children, Billy (Starr), Melinda, and Brad (Bea); and six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Dick (Gail) and sister, Virginia (Dale).

Funeral service was held Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at 11 AM at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, 1819 Reservation Dr., Fort Wayne, IN with visitation 1-hour prior. Visitation was on Tuesday, December 8, 2015 from 12 to 3 PM and 5 to 8 PM at the church. Burial in Covington Memorial Gardens.

Preferred memorials may be made to Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church. Friends may share a memory or send a condolence at www.elzey-patterson-rodakfuneralhome.com.
