DON’T WALK IN SILENCE EVENT RAISES MONEY FOR HEARING PROJECTS
The Fort Wayne Breakfast Sertoma Club, in partnership with Carter Hearing Clinics, ENT Associates & The Hearing Center, and FWCS, held the first annual Celebrate Sound “Don’t Walk in Silence” 5K Walk/10K Run in Foster Park on May 17, 2014.
With the support from the community and local businesses, over $10,000 was raised at the first year event. Money raised will be used to fund both local and national hearing health projects.
National projects for Sertoma include college scholarships for hard of hearing and deaf students, scholarships for those pursuing graduate studies in speech-language pathology or audiology and awareness programs to prevent noise-induced hearing loss.
Locally, a portion of the monies raised will go to support the local Fort Wayne schools for use in the deaf and hard of hearing program.
“It was a great turnout and a fun day for our first annual walk/run,” Event Chair Lee Ehinger shared.
“We would like to thank all of the businesses who sponsored us through monetary donations or raffle prizes—as well as all of the participants who joined us in raising awareness for hearing health. We look forward to this being an annual event.”
