CONSERVATION PLEDGE

I give my pledge as an American to save and faithfully to defend from waste the natural resources of my country – it soil and minerals, its forests, waters, and wildlife.

 

OUTDOOR CODE

(Taken from the Boy Scout Handbook.)

As an American I will do my best to:

Be clean in my outdoor manners,

Be careful with fire,

Be considerate in the outdoors,

and

Be conservation minded

 

THE KNIGHTS’ CODE

(From the time of King Author.)

Be always ready with your armor on, except when you are taking your rest at night.

Defend the poor, and help them that cannot defend themselves.

Do nothing to hurt or offend anyone else.

Be prepared to fight in the defense of your country.

At whatever you are working, try to win honor and name for honesty.

Never break your promise.

Maintain the honor of your country with your life.

Rather die honest than live shamelessly.

Chivalry requireth that youth should be trained in performing the most laborious and humble offices with cheerfulness and grace, and to do good unto others.

 

NRA HUNTER’S CODE OF ETHICS

(Should be everyone’s code.)

I will consider myself an invited guest of the landowner, seeking his permission, and conduct myself that I may be welcome in the future.

I will obey the rules of safe gun handling and will courteously but firmly insist that others who hunt with me do the same.

I will do my best to acquire marksmanship and hunting skills that assure clean, sportsmanlike kills.

I will obey all game laws and regulations, and will insist that my companions do likewise.

I will support conservation efforts that assure good hunting for future generations of Americans.

I will pass along to younger hunters the attitudes and skills essential to a true outdoor sportsman.

 

NRA GUN SAFETY RULES

(Based on the code of common sense.)

The fundamental NRA rules for safe gun handling are:

1 – Always keep the gun pointed in a safe direction.

2 – Always keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot.

3 – Always keep the gun unloaded until ready to use.

When using or storing a gun always follow these rules:

1 – Be sure the gun is safe to operate.

2 – Know how to safely use the gun.

3 – Use only the correct ammunition for your gun.

4 – Know your target and what is beyond.

5 – Wear eye and ear protection as appropriate.

6 – Never use alcohol or drugs before or while shooting.

7 – Store guns so they are not accessible to unauthorized persons.

Be aware that certain types of guns and many shooting activities require additional safety precautions.
