STEPHEN THOMPSON, 49
STEPHEN THOMPSON, 49, passed away Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at Lutheran Hospital.
Born in Fort Wayne on May 31, 1960, he graduated from Elmhurst High School in Fort Wayne. After suffering a spinal cord injury while a student at Indiana University in 1981 he went on to earn a B.A. from IU in 1984 and a Master of Science Degree from Purdue University in 1991. He also earned a certificate as a clinical associate from the American Board of Medical Psychotherapists in 1996 and a certificate as a disability analyst and fellow from the American Board of Disability Analysts in 1997. He worked as a rehabilitative counselor at Winona Hospital in Indianapolis. He was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. He was an avid reader and enjoyed sports, music and the company of family and friends.
Surviving are his parents, Dr. Martin (Jessie) Thompson of Fort Wayne; Brother Tim (Karen) Thompson of Fort Wayne; Brother John (Mary Ann) Thompson of Wheaton, Illinois; Sister, Roseann Thompson of Monroeville, Indiana.
Stephen was preceded in death by his brother Martin M. Thompson in 1966.
An autobiographical work, “Genesis A Portrait Of Spinal Cord Injury” was published by Sunstone Press in 2001. The book recounts the traumatic incident, through good and bad times and how Stephen bravely dealt with the dreadful life-changing event.
