LIONS’ LATEST FUNDRAISER A SUCCESS
The Waynedale Lions Club has once again teamed with Waynedale Elementary, the PTA and other local organizations to raise funds for local children in need. This year’s fundraiser was held on Friday, November 11 from 4-7pm at Waynedale Elementary School located at 7201 Elzey Street, Fort Wayne, IN.
The project served 296 fish and chicken dinners, and the Waynedale Lions were able to present a check for $2,000 to the school, which will be used to purchase uniforms and sports equipment for the children.
Larry Martin, President of the Waynedale Lions Club and lead organizer of the event stated, “Many parents have trouble affording the basic school supplies, clothing and sports equipment for their child. Every child deserves these essential items to succeed in an educational environment.”
Brenda Warren, Case Manager for Waynedale Elementary, said, “The fish fry was a success! With the help of our PTA and staff and Mrs. Margaret Schimmel from Waynedale United Methodist Church, daughter of long time Waynedale resident and deceased Waynedale Lion, Jim Mitchell, Waynedale was once again able to put this fish fry together. The staff from Waynedale Elementary School provided the facility and drinks. Mr. Luckett, our Math Interventionalist, provided the music. Our friends from Waynedale United Methodist Church, with Mrs. Margaret Schimmel making the arrangements, Waynedale Elementary School staff and Waynedale Elementary School PTA provided delicious desserts. The meal was delicious and the socialization was even better. What a great team we have become with our neighbors in the Waynedale community.”
The uniforms and sports equipment are particularly vital to Waynedale Elementary, as it is a Fort Wayne Community Physical Education Magnet school. The sale was part of an ongoing partnership between Waynedale Elementary and the Waynedale Lions Club.
