FOX ISLAND HONEYSUCKLE DAZE
The public is invited to volunteer for this free Honeysuckle removal community event. If you volunteer for one full day you will have earned a free individual annual park pass to Allen County Parks (valued at $20)!
Honeysuckle Daze is an annual event that occurs late in October or early November. We will be removing invasive and non-native Asian bush honeysuckle shrubs that are encroaching on the Fox Island dune in the Fox Island State Nature Preserve. This event is duplicated at Metea County Park on November 8th and 9th (rain dates November 14th and 16th), same time, but located along Cedar Creek on the softshell turtle trail.
How do you RSVP? Contact Environmental Educator, Natalie Haley at 260-449-3246 (Fox Island) or 260-449-3778 (Metea) to sign up and volunteer for either event. Please pre-register so that we may prepare enough equipment. Wear long sleeves, long pants, work boots, protective eyewear (clear/not-shaded), a sack lunch, a re-fillable water bottle and leather gloves. If you have a favorite pair of loppers, please bring them. (We cannot allow volunteers to use gas-powered chainsaws or spin-trimmers fitted with saw blades unless that equipment is brought in and owned by said volunteer. However, that equipment is not the responsibility of Allen County Parks – so please be aware and be safe.)
