CROSS COUNTRY RACE RUNNING IS ELEMENTARY
Waynedale Elementary students, along with hundreds of fellow students, competed in a Cross Country race on Monday, September 19, 2016. The students ranged from grades 1-5.
This was the 2nd of 4 races scheduled for the Fort Wayne Community Schools. At the first race of the year on Monday, September 12, there were over 600 participants! That race was held at Shoaff Park and directed by Rich Teixeira, a PE instructor with Croninger Elementary School. The second race was held at the Waynedale Park, just behind Waynedale Elementary School and directed by Brad Cooper, a second grade teacher at Waynedale Elementary. The first through third graders, boys and girls, ran the course at 430pm and the remaining grades followed. The race was 1-mile on the grassy area of the park, starting and finishing near the Splash Pad, with all participants receiving a t-shirt and a ribbon when they finished.
The next race in the Elementary Cross Country series will be on Monday, September 26 at Swinney Park and directed by Jennifer McDunnough a Washington Elementary School Building Coach. The final race of the year will be held at Shoaff Park on Monday, October 3rd with Vince Quinones, PE instructor from Towles Montessori School directing.
All of the races are open to any FWCS elementary students. Medals will be awarded to the Top 10 at the Final Race.
