MILITARY FAMILIES INVITED TO BLUE STAR SALUTE

Military families from across Indiana are invited to participate in the Annual Indiana Blue Star Salute on Saturday, June 21 from 10-2 at the Hendricks County Fairgrounds in Danville. This event honors the sacrifices made by family members of those serving on Active Duty and in the Reserve and National Guard. Admission and parking are free and the event is open to the public.

Indiana has a rich legacy of military service and honoring our veterans when they return. Serving alongside our veterans are the parents, siblings, spouses and children of our military families. For the past 8 years, the Indiana Blue Star Committee has been honoring these family members through a daylong salute that includes recognition of the family’s service member, guest speakers, prizes and a day of family fun.

Each family also receives a Blue Star Banner to commemorate the tradition started during World War I by Captain Robert Quiessner of the 5th Ohio Infantry to honor his sons serving in Europe. Today, Blue Star Service Banners are displayed by military families across our country to show pride in their loved one’s service and to remind all Americans that preserving our freedom is not free. With service members deployed all around the world, we are reminded that communities around our Indiana are filled with proud military families.

To participate in the Indiana Blue Star Salute, military families should register at indianabluestar.org. More information is available on Facebook and Twitter at Indiana Blue Star Salute.
