GET EXCITED! IT’S GIRL SCOUT COOKIE TIME!

Sydney Kammer is one of 11,000 girls ages 5-17 selling Girl Scout cookies in Northern Indiana-Michiana through March 11, 2014.Record-setting snow and cold weather hasn’t slowed down the Girl Scouts’ mission to build business skills and gain financial knowledge. From cookie booths in local retail stores to visits throughout neighborhoods, Girl Scouts in the Fort Wayne community are selling everyone’s favorite cookies through March 11, 2014.

To celebrate the biggest girl-led business in the world, February 7-8 was National Girl Scout Cookie weekend. The activities included special troop activities and expanded sales in some of the 706 active and upcoming booths already scheduled. You can find your closest booth by visiting girlscoutsnorthernindiana-michiana.org/buycookies.

Each box of Girl Scout Cookies sells for $3.50. Because less than one-third of the price goes to pay for the cookies, most of the money raised supports local Girl Scouting. The money each Girl Scout troop earns makes it possible for them to execute the activities, trips and community projects they have planned.

Today, as when founded in 1912, Girl Scouts like 6-year-old Sydney Kammer are building self-esteem and succeeding as leaders.

Sydney from Troop #00387 expressed that she liked seeing everyone get excited about the cookies and the more boxes of cookies she sold she said, “The more fun things I get to do with my troop…my sisters!”

“Girls are the main beneficiaries of the Girl Scout Cookie program, the largest girl-led business in the country. As they build important life and leadership skills, girls are supported by the dedication of their families and the thousands of hours their troop leaders and others give as volunteers,” says Sharon Pohly, CEO, Girl Scouts of Northern Indiana-Michiana
