EMPLOYMENT – VOICE OF THE TOWNSHIP
We are very busy at your Wayne Township Trustee Office. Since the beginning of the year, my staff has handled more than 4,000 requests for temporary relief. Our Employment Center has been instrumental in helping 77 clients to get jobs. In addition, my staff is gearing up for a very busy month in the office and in the community.
Regardless of how busy we are at the Township, I believe that all clients must be treated with the utmost respect and dignity. I strongly believe in the worth of every person who walks in the door. Any one of us could fall on hard times and need the assistance with shelter, utilities, medicine, burial assistance or food that the Township provides so quickly and efficiently.
In these challenging economic times, no other form of government is designed specifically to provide the personal attention and support that clients require to sustain them in their time of need; and to help them turn their lives around. Township government is neighbor helping neighbor for the betterment of our community.
My staff works very hard to accomplish our mission of helping people, and we are a workforce that is committed to helping our community. We have engaged in some new initiatives and have renewed our participation in some annual community events. There are many throughout the year, and I would like to highlight a few.
On May 7th the Wayne Township Trustee Office, announced the winners of its first annual scholarship award, The Recognizing Achievement Scholarship (RAS). These scholarship awards are sponsored by staff and individual donors. The scholarships are not funded with tax-payer dollars.
Mother’s Day is a special day for me. I think of my mother and my aunt and special memories warm my heart. As Trustee, I have seen mothers deny themselves, for the benefit of their children. Mother’s Day is a perfect time to tell your Mother you love her and thank her. Whether you sent a Mother’s Day card or flowers, the key to a memorable day for her is expressing your love and gratitude to her.
On May 18, our office volunteered again in the Great American Cleanup Day. The Wayne Township Office partners with local organizations and volunteers to help with the cleanup and beautification effort throughout Fort Wayne.
Memorial Day is a United States federal holiday which occurs every year on the final Monday of May. Memorial Day is a day of remembering the men and women who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. Memorial Day has been extended to honor Americans who died in all wars. Many people visit cemeteries and memorials, particularly to honor those who have died in military service. The billboard at our office says, “In Memory of Those Who Died Defending Our Freedom!” We salute and thank all of you who have served our country. Please take time to thank or help a military family. Help comes in many forms. Each of us can provide help in our own way.
May 27 is the Waynedale Memorial Day Parade. It is one of my favorite events, because it celebrates the spirit of Waynedale residents coming together to honor our Veterans and military families. My office has participated in the parades every year that I have served as Trustee, and we are excited to participate again this year. If you see me on the parade route, make sure to say “hello” as I try to greet as many persons as possible and to personally thank the veterans for their service to our country.
