SmartGov Spotlights Mayor’s Pledge to Better Serve the Public

Easy, Effective, Efficient: New Initiative Puts Your City @ Your Service

In the three weeks since Deputy Mayor Beth Malloy and I announced our launch of the SmartGov initiative, we are hearing compliments from the public everywhere we go. As I thought, people appreciate having an accessible way to get information about what their City government is doing. Beth has a background in technology and a commitment to using it to open up communication with citizens and others interested in what our City is doing.

SmartGov is our new approach—much of it digital—to make City government more welcoming, more convenient and more responsive to your needs. With the online resource, through the SmartGov web portal, you can find more information about City services and about City government right from your keyboard.

We recognize that the work we do everyday must be done smarter, more cost effectively and with more citizen-focus. This entire effort meets those challenges. Because the dedicated people who work in my administration continue to innovate and find ways to do more with less, we are meeting the high-quality, low-cost needs you expect day in and day out. This SmartGov effort will help us meet the same real-time, online information and service expectations you demand from business, organizations and local government.

The  searchable, sortable and automatically updated web portal holds a wealth of information. City contracts, check register and City Council reports, along with the comprehensive annual financial report are all available for you to browse. SmartGov is focused on making government easier to use, promoting accessibility and responsiveness, increasing efficiencies, saving resources, streamlining bureaucracy, enhancing inclusion, and ensuring Fort Wayne is open for business and ready to grow.  The portal is just the first step in a much larger initiative. We plan to expand SmartGov and incorporate it throughout City operations. The Web portal will gain additional components and tools in the near future.
