ST. PATTY’S AT THE DEER PARK PUB

Oh Paddy, dear, an did ye hear the news that’s goin’ round?

Well, Deer Park Pub’s festivities are beginning early with the tappin’ of the green keg at 8pm on Tuesday, the 16th—St. Patrick’s Day Eve. And then on Wednesday mornin’, March 17th, the official St. Patrick’s Day will begin when Tony serves up his 8am breakfast of Irish coffee and Giant Green Shamrock donuts from Richards Bakery.

Several events will comprise the Irish day, located at the corner of Leesburg and Spring Streets (across from the University of St. Francis). Deer Park will be serving Hearty Corn Beef on Rye with Dill, Chips, Cold Slaw and a Homemade Shamrock Cookie for $6.95. Beverages on draught include a Traditional Green lager beer, Guinness Stout, Smithwick’s Irish Ale, Harps, and Ireland’s Murphy’s Stout.

Then starting at 4:45pm, the Outdoor Strong Man’s Keg Toss Contest. The Shamrock Sprint at 5:15pm will head south to Lansing Street and then west to Leesburg Road, then sprint for the finish at Leesburg and Spring Streets to complete the Shamrock Sprint of 2010. According to Race Director Mitch Harper, is more or less 600 yards. Irishman Tony Henry is the proprietor of the Deer Park Pub and has enshrined the winner’s name on a plaque which is permanently affixed to the storied walls of the popular Fort Wayne pub.

The Peoples Parade will begin at 5:30pm. This is the 13th annual “shortest” St. Patrick’s Day parade in the world. It starts at the 1500 block on Viola Avenue, right behind the pub.
