LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

Dear Editor,

I live in Granite City, Illinois and subscribe to your newspaper, The Waynedale News. I have a large collection of ethnic folk costumes from around the world. Some of the costumes in my collection are old and often in need of repair. I have often wondered how to properly store my collection, as I have several hundred costumes.

I have found the article in your newspaper, “Around The Frame” very helpful in helping me to understanding textiles and how to repair and preserve them. Ms. Eubank has been very helpful, with helping me to understand how to hunt for vintage fabric, what I should consider before making repairs to my vintage clothing and much more helpful advice. Not only is her article good advice for people interested in quilts but helpful to anyone interested in textiles.

Keep up the great work!

Passenger Rail is Essential to the Strength of Our Economy

The economic vitality of Fort Wayne is one of the most pressing issues that this community faces in the immediate future. Factories have been closing, small businesses have been going out of business, and residents have been losing jobs at a record rate. With this in mind, our state and local leaders should be thinking very hard about ideas that would make this community stand above the rest.

One thing that would help our local economy is to bring passenger rail back to Fort Wayne. A rail line to Chicago or Cleveland would ensure that Fort Wayne is included in the regional economy. Using passenger rail for transportation will help eliminate our dependence on foreign oil, will help attract and retain creative young professional, and, most importantly, will create jobs immediately.

Fort Wayne is centrally located between major regional cities such as Chicago, Detroit, Columbus, and Indianapolis. To take advantage of this central location, there needs to be a renewed focus on passenger rail. Fort Wayne is on the Midwest High Speed Rail Association’s Vision for a Midwest Network, but for this to become a reality, members of this community need to show their support and put pressure on their elected officials at the local, state, and federal levels.
