ABOITE NEW TRAILS ANNOUNCES $25,000 PLEDGE
Aboite New Trails (“ANT”) announces a $25,000 pledge over three years from Do it Best Corp. The Do it Best Corp. commitment goes through 2013 and will help to complete the Make the Connection initiative, which now needs only 2.5 more trail miles on Homestead Road and the Towpath Trail to create 50 continuous miles across Fort Wayne, linking together the Aboite Trails, downtown’s Rivergreenway and New Haven’s scenic trail system. For the first time in Fort Wayne’s history, thousands of area residents instantly will be connected to safe, affordable trails. An additional $250,000 is still needed to make this project a reality.
The $25,000 donation from Do it Best Corp. is in addition to a previous $25,000 donation, bringing them up to the Cyclist fundraising tier and providing the company with sponsorship of a rest area along the trails. Local corporate donations have been a cornerstone of ANT’s success from its grassroots beginnings, making up nearly 15-percent of Aboite New Trails’ fundraising dollars, with the remaining funds coming from foundations and individuals.
“When I first heard about the Aboite Trails, I knew it was exactly what Fort Wayne needed,” said Bob Taylor, President & CEO, Do it Best Corp. “Now that we have the opportunity to connect all of Fort Wayne, I see these trails making a tremendous impact in the quality of life here,” added Taylor. “There is a permanency to this thing. The ability to sell this community, and allow people to be healthier and safer, will last long after we’re gone.”
“Do it Best Corp. has been a strong supporter of the trails for years and has helped ANT to leverage other significant funding opportunities,” said Lynn Reecer, President, Aboite New Trails. “It’s a company that is committed to its community and its employees, and we’re fortunate that it’s not only headquartered here in Fort Wayne but that its leaders recognize true corporate citizenship.”
Created in December 2001, Aboite New Trails, Inc. is a dynamic, not-for-profit corporation whose mission is to improve the quality of life for area citizens through the development of safe and interconnected multi-use trails throughout Fort Wayne and its neighboring communities. ANT is working to help fund and build both the Aboite Trails system and the Fort Wayne Trails, both of which are vital regional and local assets.
