LIVING HEALTHIER SERIES WITH HOST LEADER JANE AVERY

The School of Health Sciences at the University of Saint Francis will host the final event in this year’s Living Healthier Series, Impact on Wellness, on Wednesday, December 16 at 6:30 p.m. at the North Campus, 2702 Spring Street.

Session leader Jane Avery, Executive Director of Community Harvest Food Bank of Northeast Indiana, Inc., will discuss the physical and emotional effects of hunger on all ages as well as social problems that have hunger or food insecurity as a primary factor.

Ms. Avery is a recognized expert and capable leader in the battle against hunger. Under her leadership, the Community Harvest Food Bank has more than tripled its annual budget since 1996, distributing more produce throughout its service area than any Indiana member organization of Feeding America. In 2005 Feeding America honored Community Harvest as its “Food Bank of the Year.” A first for food banks in Indiana, Community Harvest is also the smallest food bank to receive this distinction.

Healthy snacks will be served at 6 p.m. Admission is a non-perishable food item that will be donated to the Community Harvest Food Bank. For more information, call 260-399-8177.

The University of Saint Francis, founded in 1890, is a comprehensive university in the Catholic Franciscan tradition, offering undergraduate and graduate programs to more than 2,100 students from a broad geographic region.
