FORT WAYNE DERBY GIRLS ANNOUNCE TRYOUT DATES FOR 2010 SEASON

What to bring: A helmet and skates. All other pads are optional. Rental skates are available. Skating experience is required. Interested skaters may email Alotta Attitude at dv8attitude@gmail.com for more information.

 

The league is also looking for volunteer referees. Some skating experience is preferred. Men and women over 19 are encouraged to contact Minx at tonya.vojtkofsky@yahoo.com for more information.

Roller derby, once a common sport in mid-’70s, has staged a comeback. Fort Wayne is at the pinnacle of Indiana’s roller derby resurgence. Since October 2005, the Fort Wayne Derby Girls, a non-profit, volunteer-run organization, has raised $40,000 for local women’s and children’s charities. Charities benefiting from its efforts include: SCAN, Erin’s House, Charis House, Sexual Assault Treatment Center, Hoosier Burn Camp, Great Lakes Burn Camp, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Habitat for Humanity- Women Build, Easter Seals ARC, Turnstone Center for Disabled Children, Victim’s Assistance Program, Make A Wish Foundation, Black Pine Animal Zoo, Ft Wayne Women’s Bureau and Crossroad Children’s Home.
