VOICE OF THE TOWNSHIP

I was honored to be asked again this year to be one of the Chefs for the Flavor of Fall Fundraiser for the Brenda Hanchar Foundation. As many of you know, Brenda Hanchar was a nurse and a resident of Waynedale.

After her death, her husband, Thomas, established a foundation in her honor to help persons who cannot afford the medical equipment and supplies they need. The fundraiser was fun and the soups were delicious, especially my world famous “Wayne Township Chili.” If you were not able to attend, I hope you will plan to enjoy this worthwhile event next year.

Thanksgiving will be here shortly; and in honor of Thanksgiving, I wanted to share with you a few of the many things for which I am thankful:

-My wonderful wife, our two sons, my delightful grandchildren, my siblings, my other family members and friends and my church and spiritual community.

-Being Wayne Township Trustee, which gives me the opportunity to help those in need and to meet many of you during events throughout the year. I couldn’t have imagined a better and more rewarding job.

-Our compassionate staff here at the Trustee’s Office, who work hard every day to help those in need.

-Our Township Board members and their support of the mission of Wayne Township.

-Our clients who need our assistance now but are trying to find jobs to support themselves and their families and are working to become self-sufficient.

-The volunteers for the Healthy Cities Health Fair and Veterans’ Stand Down, which helped over 650 uninsured and underinsured persons and veterans here at the Trustee’s Office this year.

-The right to vote and freedoms we all enjoy as Americans, including the freedom to worship at the place of our choice.

-Our great community that is so generous in helping those in need and is a wonderful place to live.

-The Waynedale News, which allows me to write this column to communicate with you and which focuses on the news of interest to Wayne Township residents.

-And, I am very thankful for you, the residents of Wayne Township, who have given me the opportunity to serve you.

Have a great Thanksgiving holiday and please take time to reflect on the things for which you are thankful.
