GIRL SCOUTS OF LIMBERLOST COUNCIL RECEIVES AWARD
Lincoln Financial Foundation has awarded a $27,000 grant to Girl Scouts of Limberlost Council for its Summer Camp program. The grant will make financial aid available to ensure that every girl who wants to can come to camp during the 2008 Summer Camp season.
Girl Scout camp is designed to be fun while providing opportunities to gain life skills, enhance self-esteem, make new friends and develop positive long-lasting values — qualities each girl needs to become a positive contributing member of her home community. The Summer Camp 2008 program offers day camp and resident (overnight) camp sessions from June 16 through August 1, 2007. Girls do not have to be Girl Scouts to participate in these adventure-filled summer camp experiences.
McMillen Day Camp is held each day from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Girls participate in songs, games, water fun, trail walks, sports and cookouts, and older girls can experience the Climbing Tower and Zip Line. For resident campers, Camp Logan offers more than 200 acres of woods, meadows, wetlands and an island; during the day, girls might be taking a hike, canoeing or kayaking in the lake or perfecting horseback riding skills. Both McMillen Day Camp and Camp Logan resident camp meet or exceed the more than 300 nationally recognized standards for safety, health, staff training and program quality identified by the American Camp Association (ACA).
For more information about day camp and resident camp opportunities, families should call the Camp Registrar, Girl Scouts of Limberlost Council, (260) 422-3417 or 800-283-4812, extension 130. The Summer Camp 2008 brochure is also available at www.girlscouts-limberlost.org.
