CLASS LEADERS OF 2008
These past few weeks, dozens of local high school graduates are getting the attention they deserve for a job well done.
There are graduation ceremonies, celebratory parties and speeches from administrators, teachers and parents praising the accomplishment that a high school diploma represents.
Some of the graduates, such as the honored valedictorians, got there and along the way achieved perfect or near-perfect grades. Each year the local high schools honor their top students. The Valedictorian is the person that has achieved the highest grade point average during their high school career. At commencement ceremonies they present the Valedictory.
The Salutatorian is the student that has held the second highest GPA over their high school career. On graduation day, the Salutatorian presents the salutatory, which welcomes all guests.
Others got there kicking and screaming, their parents wringing their hands and worrying. Would the day ever come they wondered, when that student would collect that high school diploma?
It did.
Now these students have boosted their lifelong earning potential and opened doors for themselves which otherwise would be slammed shut. Now they can turn toward other goals — which hopefully will include more education.
Congratulations to the Class of 2008. You’ve reached a milestone in your life. Many have cheered you on in that journey, and stand ready to cheer you on as you move forward. And so do we here at The Waynedale News, not only congratulate those with the highest grades, but also, congratulate all the graduates and wish them the best.
